RadialFX — Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the RadialFX plug-in and website collect, why, and your choices. We collect the minimum needed to license the Software and (if you visit the website) to run it.

1. Data the plug-in collects and sends

To verify your license and enforce the 14-day trial / 2-device limit, the Software transmits the following to Freemius, Inc. (our licensing + payments provider) over an encrypted HTTPS connection:

your license key (when you activate);
a machine identifier derived from your Windows installation (the system MachineGuid), used to bind your activation to your device(s) and enforce the device limit;
a non-identifying install/device label (a short prefix of the machine identifier) shown in your own license dashboard.

Separately, the Software sends two kinds of short message to PostHog (US-hosted) so we can tell how many installations actually work and whether people keep using the wheel after they install it. Both are sent quietly in the background and never hold up the interface, and both carry the same four basics: the plug-in version, the version of After Effects you are running it in, whether you are on the trial, licensed, or expired, and a one-way hashed machine identifier that cannot be reversed back to your MachineGuid. Each message also labels itself as coming from the RadialFX plug-in rather than a web browser, and instructs PostHog not to build a profile of you.

The activation message — sent once per computer, the first time you open the wheel. Alongside the four basics it carries a single yes/no flag: whether the plug-in was able to load its own settings panel on that computer. That flag exists so we can tell a working installation from a broken one — on some Windows setups the settings panel is installed under a different user account and the wheel cannot run tools at all. Nothing else.
The daily message (wheel_active_day) — sent at most once per computer per local calendar day, and only on a day you actually open the wheel; on days you don't use the Software, nothing is sent at all. Alongside the four basics it carries how many days have passed since the plug-in was first used on that computer, how many times the wheel was opened on your previous active day, how many times a tool was run on that previous active day, and the same settings-panel yes/no flag described above. Those two counts are plain numbers.

Because the plug-in sends these two messages from your computer straight to PostHog, rather than routing them through our website, PostHog also receives the IP address your computer is connecting from — as any server does when your computer contacts it. PostHog stores that address with the message and derives an approximate location from it (country, region, city and postal area). We use it only to understand which countries RadialFX is actually being used in. It is never joined to your license key, your email or your name, and we do not use it to identify you. This is handled differently from the website's own server-side events described in section 3, where the IP address is hashed and never stored in raw form. Switching off the plug-in's analytics checkbox stops both messages, and with them the IP address and the approximate location.

Neither message carries your license key, your email, or your name, and neither tells us which tools you ran: the daily message reports how many times a tool was run, never which tool it was. There is no session recording and no record of what you actually do inside After Effects.

The Software does not collect or transmit your After Effects projects, media, file contents, keystrokes, the names of your files, compositions or tools, or any record of which tools you use. Apart from the licensing requests and the two PostHog messages described above, nothing leaves your machine: trial state, the license cache, and the counters behind the daily message are stored locally (under %APPDATA%\RadialFX\).

Switching it off. The plug-in's Settings panel has an analytics checkbox, ticked by default. Clear it and everything described in the two bullets above stops: no daily message, and no activation message either — nothing goes to PostHog from the plug-in at all. The licensing requests listed at the top of this section are a separate thing and continue, because activation, the trial and the device limit run on them.

2. Data Freemius collects (payments)

When you purchase, Freemius acts as the Merchant of Record and collects and processes your payment and billing information (name, email, billing address, payment details, tax/VAT data) to complete the sale, issue your license and invoice, handle refunds/chargebacks, and meet tax obligations. We receive limited order data (e.g., your email and license status) to provide support and honor the license. Freemius's handling of your data is governed by Freemius's own privacy policy (https://freemius.com/privacy/).

3. Data the website collects

The website uses measurement tools so we can understand traffic and improve the funnel. You can block them with your browser's cookie/tracking controls (or a tracker-blocking extension); doing so does not affect your use of the website or the plug-in.

PostHog — product analytics that show us, in aggregate, how visitors move through the site (page views, clicks, and conversion steps such as starting a trial or buying) so we can see where people get stuck. We run PostHog in cookieless mode (no cookies, no cross-site tracking); it records masked, aggregate interaction data, not your identity, on PostHog's US-hosted infrastructure. Provided by PostHog under PostHog's privacy policy.
Microsoft Clarity — heatmaps and session replay that help us see where visitors get stuck. Clarity sets first-party cookies and records masked interaction data (clicks, scrolls, mouse movement). It masks text and form inputs by default, so we do not see what you type. Provided by Microsoft under Microsoft's privacy statement.

Because Microsoft Clarity uses cookies, you can decline it at any time through your browser's cookie controls or a tracker-blocking extension. PostHog (cookieless) sets nothing to decline.

Two events are recorded on our own server rather than in your browser: that an installer download was requested, and that a purchase completed (reported to us by Freemius). Because these happen server-side, a browser tracker-blocker does not suppress them. Neither one identifies you: the download is labelled with either the same cookieless identifier your browser already uses or, if that is unavailable, a one-way hash of your IP address and browser user-agent that we rotate daily and never store in raw form; the purchase is labelled with a one-way hash of your email address, never the address itself.

4. How we use data

to activate, validate, and enforce your license and trial;
to provide customer support and honor refunds/upgrades;
to operate and improve the website and marketing (aggregate analytics only);
to see, in aggregate, how many installations work and how much the plug-in is actually used after install, so we know what to fix and build next.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Third parties

Freemius, Inc. — licensing, checkout, payments, tax (Merchant of Record).
PostHog — cookieless, US-hosted product analytics + conversion funnels on the website, and the plug-in's one-per-computer activation message plus the once-a-day wheel_active_day message (section 1), both of which you can switch off in the plug-in's Settings panel.
Microsoft (Clarity) — heatmaps and masked session replay on the website. No other third parties receive your data except as required by law.

6. Data retention

Local files (trial/license cache) remain on your machine until you uninstall or delete them. License/order records are retained by Freemius and by us for as long as needed to support your license and meet legal/tax requirements.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights for data we control, contact us at support@radialfx.app; for payment/billing data, contact Freemius.

Your choices in the Software and on the website:

Turn off all plug-in analytics. The plug-in's Settings panel has an analytics checkbox, ticked by default. Clear it and the Software stops sending both the daily wheel_active_day message and the activation message described in section 1 — nothing goes to PostHog from the plug-in after that. No account, request, or email to us is needed, and the plug-in keeps working normally.
Deactivate and uninstall. You may use the Software's "Deactivate this device" function and uninstall it at any time to remove local data.
Block the website's measurement tools. See section 3: Microsoft Clarity uses cookies and can be declined through your browser's cookie controls or a tracker-blocking extension; PostHog runs cookieless on the website.

8. Children

The Software is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date will change and material changes will be noted on the website.
